This meeting is the 5th of the EOS Topical Meeting Series on Advanced Imaging Techniques. Previous meetings took place in Delft (2003), London (2005), Lille (2007) and Jena (2009).

The workshop includes lectures and contributed talks given by international researchers active in the fields of organic and thin-film optoelectronics. Particular emphases is given to electronic and optical device simulation of:

• organic LEDs
• organic solar cells
• inorganic thin film solar cells
• dye-sensitized solar cells

 During the 3-day workshop, Fluxim staff will also present hands-on exercises with Setfos, the Semiconducting Thin-Film Optical Simulation software.

Optical communications have matured substantially in the last 10 years.  The comms world is now made up of an increasingly diverse number of segments from ultra short distance optical backplanes, to local area networks, to fibre to the home, to large area telecommunications networks. All of these areas share similar core optical technology, yet as the different markets mature, the particular implementations become increasingly diverse.

This meeting is designed to give a digest of the latest developments in the complete cross section of optical communication areas. Talks will give visibility of where the technical and market edge is in the range of communication applications, insights into the obstacles of the day in the various segments and a little glimpse into the future. This is designed to encourage cross-fertilisation of ideas between the different comms segments, maximising the opportunity to reapply lessons learnt elsewhere to your own problems, increasing development efficiency  and reducing risk and time to market.

The European Commission Directorates General for research, information Society and Media, Energy, and for Mobility and Transport will held a joint Information Day on Research PPPs which will take place on the 9 July 2010 in the Charlemagne Building, rue de la Loi 170, Brussels. By launching a series of state-of-the-art research presentations by world-renown scientific and engineering authorities, the aim of the Workshop is to bring together scientists, technology developers and technology users who are investigating or exploiting optically and electromagnetically excited acoustical, thermal and related diffusion-wave phenomena for the investigation of a large variety of material properties and applications. The many photoacoustic, photothermal (PA/PT) and diffusion-wave topics indicate that this field has developed a broad range of tools for fundamental and applied research. PA/PT research has reached a mature state, with an established position in instrumentation development and measurement technology and materials characterization. Future progress is guaranteed
by the close synergy between advances in laser technology, instrumental development and novel opportunities in areas of current strong growth, such as the fields of biomedical imaging and material/device quality control.

The International Symposium on the Science and Technology of Light Sources has been held regularly since 1973 and provides a unique opportunity for the worldwide community of engineers and scientists from the lighting industry, research organisations and academia to meet, present and discuss their work on light source research and development.
The International Conference on White LEDs and Solid State Lighting held its inaugural meeting in Tokyo in 2007, and its 2nd meeting in Taipei in December 2009. The conferences aim to provide a forum for scientists, engineers and designers to discuss all aspects of fundamental and applied research on white LEDs and SSL (Solid State Lighting) in a stimulating and informed atmosphere.
For the first time, in the period from Sunday, July 11th to Friday, July 16th, 2010 the two conferences will be held jointly in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, on the campus of the Eindhoven University of Technology. The aim is to bring these two communities, which to date have evolved separately, into contact with each other. The LS community’s interests have reflected contemporary light source technology during its over 30 years history and this has resulted naturally in a growing, now significant, representation of SSL technologies (LED and OLED) in its programmes. In contrast, the WhiteLED and SSL conference community’s interests have, by definition, focused wholly on the rapidly growing white LED and OLED based SSL technologies.
